Hallo Sustainche,

I have some questions concerning the farm calender:
October is the beginning of the small rainy season, but till now you haven’t see raindrops?
October is also the month with the marula oil production. Are they busy?
And what are they doing unter the point of Maintenance & Construction?
In Germany summer is unfortunately gone!!

All the best for all of you

Hello Manfredche II,

Thanks for your questions !

Well, yes, the small rainy season can start any time from late September/early October. However, this year we haven’t seen any rain yet. As mentioned on Twitter there were a few days when some cumulus clouds arrived in Northern Namibia. But they were blown away by the wind. October now seems to be the “windy month” – as it usually refers to August !

During the last weeks Tatekulu Fillipus was very busy maintaining some reed grass roofs. He is the real specialist of this kind of architecture. Sustainche feels that Tatekulu Fillipus would need some assistance for this hard work, but it is very difficult to find a reliable youngster who could help.

Right, this is the high season of marula oil production. However, Meme Tresia during the past weekend focussed on melon oil production, which is another oil speciality at Sustainche Farm.

We hope that this answered your questions !
Wishing all the best for all of you in autumn Germany 🙂

[Hallo Sustainche,

thanks for your answers.
You wrote that Tatekulu Filipus need some assistance for the hard word. What is the son doing who lived on the farm? I thought he will succeed the farm in time? Is it only a work for men?

Greetings from a cold by shiny germany

Hallo Manfredche II,

My apology for being late with my answer!

To repair the roof with traditional material is indeed man’s work and it needs a lot of experience and knowledge. The family’s youngest son only recently joined the Namibian Defence Forces. Thus, for the time being he cannot help. Consequently Tatekulu Fillipus works all alone. In fact, we deal with what has been identified already as ‘brain drain of young people leaving the rural areas’ under the ‘challenges’ section.

Warm regards from Northern Namibia, Sustainche & Friends

What happens on Sustainche Farm right now ?

Tatekulu Fillipus is currently busy in preparing a new traditional spherical woven basket for the fresh mahangu harvest at the Sustainche Farm™ granary. This is really handicraft & art at the same time ! How nice 🙂
